“The hand of the LORD was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. And He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were dry. And He said to me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’ And I answered, ‘O Lord GOD, Thou knowest.’ Again He said to me, ‘Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.’”
Ezekiel 37:1-4 The verse above has held special meaning to me as I have often applied it to my own being. I know what it feels like to be walking around as if I am a pile of dry bones. I may be functioning, but there is no life within me that I can grasp onto. Has anyone else felt this way at some time in their life? The root of my dry bones was shame. When I believed that my past behavior determined my worth, I lived in a state of despair. I cried out many times to God for a way out, for life! Do you know what I learned? I learned that even in my despair, God still kept residence within me. I learned that when I was able to speak His Words over my life, I began to see sparks of life. When God invited Ezekiel to prophecy over the dry bones, they came to life. “Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life.” He resurrected the dry bones to a place of life! This is exactly what He has done for me. In my pain and despair, He whispered His truth: -I am with you. -I love you. -I will not leave you. -I have purpose for you. -You are worthy. -You are precious. -You are a speaker of life. And so, as I spoke His Words over myself, I began to feel my bones come to life again, just as He promised. His breath within me. Are you speaking words of life over yourself? Are you prophesying truth, God’s truth, into your heart? Can you feel His breath upon you? This is a daily practice for me, as I do not want to go back to a place of lies where the life in me dries up. I will trust in the breath of God upon my life, and today I will pray that you will know the vitality of His Word upon you. GUEST BLOGGER - BETHANY ElleMy name is Bethany.
