LAURA FRASER
I have enjoyed using many different artistic mediums as creative outlets over the years. Most consistently I find myself lettering the Bible and using art as a place to process my faith and connect with the Lord. I graduated with a degree in Art History from Kansas University and am as passionate about learning about art and its different expressions as I am about creating it.
My husband Ben and I have four daughters who are 8 years old and under and as a homeschooling mom in this season I have to be intentional and at times creative to find time to work on my art.
I love worship and for me art gives a unique expression and voice for this and a place to express my heart to the Lord. I find great freedom in the creative process.

Can you tell us about your introduction to art? How did you know you had a creative gift?
I always remember enjoying color, design and the way things flowed together but became more passionate about art in late high school and into college. Art has since become a significant way I process my faith with the Lord.
Did you ever think you’d be selling your art, or teaching art?
No, but I love both opportunities. I am more slowly learning the business side of art and I have also loved watching my daughters begin to paint and draw and teaching them and others their age along with some other mom's in a homeschooling co-op.

How do you encounter the Lord in your creativity?
I find freedom in expressing my heart and even an unlocking at times before the Lord as I paint or letter. For me art gives expression to my faith.
How do you juggle your business/family/social time?
I currently have less time to work on art than I have a passion for it, but learning to add art into things my family can do together has been helpful. Also looking for ways to incorporate growing in creativity with friends (taking art classes together, working on projects in a group setting)
Are others in your family creative too?
Yes! My husband and I are currently taking an art class together and he has been discovering a gift in drawing. Our daughters who are 2, 4, 6 and 8 all love to draw and paint. Seeing the joy even in the eyes of my two year old as she learns to mark on paper to me is a testimony of the gift of the creativity.
What do you feel God is calling you to in this season with your creativeness?
Share his word, the gospel and encouragement for others. To stay focused on His light and beauty amidst the darkness.
Is it costly to be a creative/artist?
It costs time, emotional energy and money but I found it well worth the investments made. There are definitely also cost effective ways to grow as an artist.
How did you become productive and abundant in your artwork and where do you see it going from here?
In this season I am still learning how to find a place of abundance in art... free time is my biggest obstacle and I have to be strategic in planning time to work. I hope as I continue to engage the creative process I am able to encourage others more through my art and in making their own art.
Some practical steps you'd encourage other creatives to take to become productive and learn business skills etc.?
Take the next step. Keep learning, keep growing. Look for inspiration outside of yourself when you feel stuck and then get focused back on what is before you and keep growing in your own gifting.
Any encouraging words, words of wisdom from what you've learned to help other creatives on their journey to being abundant and thriving artists/creatives/makers?
Embrace the process, don't despise the days of small beginnings, and create. Believe that the Lord delights in you as you engage your creativity with him.
