SHAREE MORRIS
Creative expression has always been a part of my life. I grew up surrounded by creativity. My
Mom was an amazing artist and she influenced me. I watched her draw and paint for years.
When I was thirteen years old I picked up the paintbrush for the first time. I copied something
out of an art book. Through high school and after I continued to develop my creative identity,
taking classes at Spokane Art School in Spokane, WA.
Being raised in a Christian home I knew I had a gift from God. I also knew that He had a
purpose for me, though it took some time to understand it. As I was growing in my craft, I
began attending a church in Castle Rock, CO and saw someone paint prophetically for the first
time. That experience planted a seed in my heart.
In time, God opened a door when my pastor asked me if I would like to paint live during a
service. Live painting has since come to be an intrinsic part of my spiritual walk. Over more
than 7 years I have been blessed with several opportunities to paint live in different churches
and ministries.
My husband and I make our home in Denver, Colorado and we are heavily involved and
dedicated to our place in the body of Christ.
Over the years I’ve been blessed to see many of my works purchased for homes and
businesses. I’ve also taken part in numerous art festivals and other events in the arts
community.
My artwork has been featured in various shops, café’s, and galleries in Spokane, WA and
Denver, CO.
As His children, I believe we can partner creatively with our Father for His kingdom. He shares
secrets and hidden things to those who seek Him. He gives us dreams and visions and
empowers us to flow in the Holy Spirit. When we partner with Him using the gifts that He has
given, we are giving Him glory and praise. I am so grateful to Him for this gift and I want to
share it with others.
My hope is that God’s heart for His people is reflected in my work and my prayer is you would
be blessed with the Spirit of revelation and knowledge of Him.
Thank you for taking time to get to know me and allowing me to share how God is touching
lives through my creative gifts.

Can you tell us about your introduction to art? How did you know you had a creative gift?
Creative expression has always been a part of my life. I grew up surrounded by creativity since my mom was an amazing artist and she influenced me. I watched her draw and paint for years. When I was twelve years old I picked up the paintbrush for the first time. It’s a very vivid memory filled with joy and delight! Being raised in a Christian home I was taught that we are created in the image of God. I learned that He had a purpose for me.
Did you ever think you’d be selling your art, or teaching art?
Yes, I dreamed about it all the way through high school. I had dreams of traveling and painting in Europe but especially in France. When going to galleries with my mom I would dream of my work hanging on the walls and selling a lot of art. I didn’t even think about teaching it yet, but I did later.
What are some of the biggest challenges you have in explaining what you do to others who don’t find themselves in a creative background or field? Life family/friends/strangers?
It can be challenging for a couple of reasons. One being the use of terminology. For instance, talking about complimentary colors or certain paint colors to artist friends is a lot different than some others because I would want to stop and explain the color wheel. Sometimes it is challenging to explain what subjects I am painting like the meanings behind them. I don’t always have every interpretation of each painting but I do try to have a verse for it. I have had many people coming up to me after the services that I have been painting in and asking a variety of questions and I am still learning. When I get feedback on what others see in my work then they help me. It is getting better though than what it was like at first.

How do you encounter the Lord in your creativity?
This is the best part! I always see this as a form of worship. It’s like having a one on one encounter with the Creator of the universe. I am constantly in awe of being His masterpiece. It’s like my life is a canvas and He is painting it and when I paint then we are painting together. There is nothing I would rather be doing than being a reflection of my Father created in His
imagine. The other part to this is praying when I paint. I encounter Him in Spiritual warfare. David said in the Psalms that God trains his hands to war. God put a paintbrush in my hand along with a sword. Sometimes I put on some worship music and blindfold myself while finger painting. It’s a good way to practice listening and loosening up. I also love to paint on arches watercolor paper as well as watercolor canvas. There are a variety of techniques and expressions I use on those surfaces.
What do you feel God is calling you to in this season with your creativeness?
To encourage and partner with other Christian artists. We need community. I am very grateful for the opportunity here with CCC. I am also involved in my church with a couple of other art friends to put prophetic art in our church. I also plan on having other art shows.
Some practical steps you'd encourage other creatives to take to become productive and learn business skills etc.?
Don't believe the lie that you’re not good enough. Set aside time on a weekly basis to work on your craft and invest in business building skills. Read a book from other artists like: Janet Hyun, Theresa Dedmon, and Matt Tommy’s. Always be honest in all of your art sales. When demand for your art increases then raise your prices.
