MIA LAUREN
My name is Mia Lauren, the maker behind Designs by Mia Lauren. This is my outlet to be an encouragement to others through my art. For as long as I can remember, art has been a part of my life and I have always found joy in the little things around me. Those things include creating something beautiful with my hands. My hope and prayer is that my art would bring glory to God and joy to the recipient

Can you tell us about your introduction to art? How did you know you had a creative gift?
Art has been a part of my life since I was a little girl. I have always loved creating just about anything with my hands. My parents have encouraged me in all my artistic endeavors, from painting when I was in school to all that I do now. I have never known life without doing art or crafts of some kind. Honestly, I never knew that I had a gift. People always told me I had talent, but I never thought I had a gift. It was not until last year when I started using watercolor and felt the Lord nudge me to do something using my art. This is when I started to see that I had a creative gifting. Additionally, when doors began to open, I knew that this was a gift the Lord had given me and He was going to use it however He wanted.
Did you ever think you'd be selling your art or teaching art?
I never thought I would be selling art… ever. I always thought that I would maybe be doing something else however, it was through friends of mine who suggested I should do something like this. Art was not what I saw in my future, but God had bigger and better plans.
What are your favorite ways to express your creativity?
My favorite ways to express my creativity are to paint with watercolor, hand-letter, and also do some digital work. Lettering a beautiful phrase, verse or song lyric, painting a picture, or drawing on my iPad have become some of my favorite ways to express myself. The fact that I can do this for a living is even better.

How do you encounter the Lord in your creativity?
I encounter the Lord in every aspect of my art. In the creating process, I get ideas from His creation all around me. Seeing how the Lord Himself is an artist and has bestowed the ability to create inspires me to pursue art. The beauty that is around me never ceases to amaze me and is a constant supplier of inspiration. When it comes to the business aspect of my art, I encounter the need for complete dependence on the Lord. I see that I need to trust Him and use the resources that He has surrounded me with to help.
What do you feel God is calling you to in this season with your creativeness?
I feel like God is calling me to just trust that He is in each step as I grow my art business. He has called me to create and then trust that He has taken care of the details. As I trust the Lord, I know that He will continue to give me opportunities to grow and glorify Himself through my art.
Is it costly to be a creative/artist?
It is costly to be creative/ artistic. Getting all the supplies and making sure that I have all that I need to create is expensive, but totally worth it. Bringing joy to my customers through my art, makes all of the costs and all of the work worthwhile.
Do you have a team of people that help you or you're just going step by step?
I have a little bit of both. There are certain aspects that I am learning how to navigate through step by step for example, business, marketing, etc. In other aspects such as designing, mailing, and research, I have my amazing family and supportive friends to help me work through.
Any encouraging words, words of wisdom from what you've learned to help other creatives on their journey to being abundant and thriving artists/creatives/makers?

- I would encourage other creatives to DO IT! Whatever you feel like the Lord has called you to do, do it because if the Lord has put it in your heart. He will give you the grace and perseverance to get it done. The Lord provides where He is guiding you.
